These beans can be harvested as soon as sixty days after being sown. This variety grows in an upright vine fashion, and therefore needs support like a pole or a trellis. Because green beans are annual, you can simply pull the root from the ground when it’s time to pick them.

To get started, sow the seeds just one inch beneath the surface in a loose soil at the base of a pole. Beans need light, but even, watering. Because the leaves can become afflicted with disease if made wet, you should water as close to the root as possible. If you do find that a leaf has become diseased, remove it from the plant immediately, as the disease can spread. You can begin harvesting beans when they are about three to five inches long; this will usually be around fifty to seventy days. Leaving mature beans on the plant can stop or slow production, so be sure to keep an eye on them!
Pole beans are indeterminate, different from Bush Beans- which means they continue to grow, blossom, fruit and keep growing. Once the bean seedling is in the ground and teams up with bacteria in the soil, beans will start to create their own nitrogen – which is the most important nutrient plants require to make strong new growth. Snap beans are ready to pick when the pod snaps or breaks in half cleanly. This is when seeds have just begun to form and the pods are 6 -7" long. Hold stem with one hand, and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches which may continue to produce. At seasons end, plants are great compost material if not diseased.
